Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt a Hit

On Saturday April 9th, a few minutes before 2pm, kids lined up excitedly by the Little Library on Broadwater respectfully ticking down the seconds until 2pm to start the “big kids” Easter Scavenger Hunt.  At precisely 2pm, they sped off — some on bike, some on scooters, some on foot.

The elementary age children found the first clue on the Little Library on Broadwater which was marked with shimmering balloons. The route was walkable, but biking was a great idea as they were led over 2.5 miles throughout the neighborhood. Participants found 10 clues. Groups and families criss crossed throughout the neighborhood searching for the next clue. Some houses put out treats or trinkets for children, others simply displayed the next clue. Ultimately, the hunt led participants to Middleridge Park for a goodie bag of treats. “The longer route has more complicated clues so it’s fun for older kids to do,” said Sarah Koch, the event organizer.

“A huge thank you to Sarah Koch for organizing and to everyone who was involved in any way with the Easter Egg scavenger hunt. My kids LOVED it and we saw so many other kids and families out and enjoying the hunt as well. Thank you all for making this the most amazing neighborhood to call home.”

The preschool route started at Middleridge Park at the intersection of Clara Barton Court and Governor Yeardly. Koch asked neighbors living on Governor Yeardly, Spurlock, or Reyers Court if they’d be willing to be a stop along the preschool route which kept the younger children within walking distance of the park. Volunteers went all out decorating their yards and driveways to make the event fun for the children. Their last clue also led to a sweet treat.

In the midst of the hunt, it began to rain. Some participants chose to go home while others persevered on. “I really enjoyed the Scavenger Hunt. I got to see a lot of the neighborhood that I hadn’t seen before,” said a middle school participant. “Yeah, and even though it rained, it was really fun,” added his second grade sister.

The rain didn’t dampen the experience. The Annual Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt was a hit!
