May MCA Election Meeting
MCA is entirely volunteer-run, fueled by community involvement and the $30 annual dues that support our activities. There is no management company, no paid staff just neighbors contributing a small amount of time to keep things going. Right now, we need at least three neighbors to step into Board roles by our May 14 meeting. If we cannot fill those roles, MCA will need to sunset and cease operations.
What That Actually Means: If MCA sunsets, we lose more than a board; we lose the infrastructure and traditions that have kept our neighborhood connected: Our email listserv; Our Middleridge Facebook page; Monthly Newsletter; Our community website & mobile app; National Night Out; Halloween Party; Holiday Lighting Contest; Pet Parade; Community Yard Sale; Entrance sign lighting & grounds maintenance; the Welcome Committee; Neighborhood Watch; Scholarships; All Night Grad Party donations; Valentines for Vets & Feed the First Responders.
All of these are organized, funded, and maintained by MCA volunteers & board and supported by annual dues.
What Stepping In Looks Like:
Secretary (2–4 hours/month) Keeps meeting notes, tracks attendance, and helps manage basic communications. This role keeps everything organized behind the scenes.
Vice President (2–4 hours/month) Supports the President and serves as a connection point to broader community organizations like the Fairfax Federation and Braddock District Council.
President (4–6 hours/month, with some additional time around events) Helps guide MCA, leads meetings, and works alongside the Board to keep everything moving forward.
A Flexible Commitment: These roles are not rigid or all-consuming. Board members can lean in more or less depending on their availability, and often choose to take on projects that interest them.
Why This Matters Now: Middleridge has always been a neighborhood where people participate, where someone raises their hand, so things continue for everyone. This is one of those moments. If you’ve ever enjoyed an event, relied on the listserv, or simply appreciated feeling connected to your neighbors, this is an opportunity to help ensure that continues. If you’re even a little curious, please consider reaching out. We are happy to answer questions, talk through the roles, and make it easy to step in. Middleridge is what it is because of the people in it. I’m hopeful we’ll continue that tradition together.
